Vintage Farm offers Berkshire Kurobuta Pork and Registered Berkshire Breeding Stock.
Naturally Raised Berkshire Pork
Pork from 100% Berkshire hogs is also known as Kurobuta pork. It is world reknown for its succulent flavor, darker color, and firm texture. Kurobuta pork is in high demand by gourmet chefs. Taste tests by America’s Test Kitchen and Iowa State University, among others, put Berkshire Kurobuta pork at the top of the list.
If you are seeking premium Berkshire Kurobuta pork, contact us and we will custom feed a pig for you. Our hogs graze on pasture and are supplemented with locally sourced feed that contains no corn or soy. Because we are a small operation, we generally only feed out those pigs for which we have buyers in advance, so contact us to reserve your pork. We sell by the half or whole hog.
For those seeking to "buy local", we breed and raise the pigs on our farm. We supplement our pasture with feed from a local miller who obtains his grains and peas from local farmers.
Registered Berkshire Breeding Stock
We choose to farrow in stalls rather than crates. Russell is present for the farrowing process. Our sows have proven to be excellent, careful mothers.
We anticipate producing four to six litters per year. We expect to sell most of the pigs at weaning, approximately six weeks of age. If you are interested in purchasing pigs for breeding or feeding, contact us so we can let you know what is available and reserve pigs for you.
If you are looking for registered Berkshire breeding stock, please contact us.
Here are four gilts from the July 2013 litter at about four months of age. They demonstrate uniformity in body style and size. We plan to keep two for our own program. We will have siblings of these available for sale.
Here are the same gilts at five months old. They are growing well and know that people treat them kindly. A scratch or two is always welcome.
These pigs are from the litter born September 2013. Picture was taken when they were four weeks old. We are retaining a boar from this litter and have one boar available for sale. This is the only time we will have breeding stock available from this cross, so contact us soon if interested.
